Stromabank Hotel

On our arrival at the hotel we received a warm welcome by our hosts Jade and Chris and this continued throughout our stay. Most relaxing meals good food and great views whilst eating.Really enjoyable stay thanks.Douglas and Val

We were warmly welcomed by Jade andChris and had great beers from the Swannay Brewery in the cosy bar. Our hosts cooked us very nice fish and chips and we shared a sticky toffee pudding. We are grateful to them for our late booking which made our visit to Hoy possible.

Lovely location to have a needed rest and be looked after so well.Friendly and attentive hosts and staff.Limited menu was more than adequate to choose from at breakfast and evening dinner. Well served, though far too large for two elderly people!

We loved our stay at the Stromabank Hotel on Hoy. Chris and Jade, and their delightful family, looked after us very well indeed and provided us with tasty home cooked breakfasts and dinners. Our room was very fresh and clean and equipped with every essential, tea tray, hair dryer, toiletries etc. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and we send huge thanks again for a lovely stay.

We loved the bedrooms lovely colors very warm and welcoming. The hosts were very friendly and the food was great.

I enjoyed a friendly welcome at Stromabank where, although I was the only guest as it was early January, they made sure my bedroom and the dining room were very warm at a cold time of the year. The bedroom was very attractive and the en suite shower was excellent.

Top class service from the lovely owners of the Stromabank Hotel.We were warmly greeted by the owners who were incredibly helpful throughout our short stay.Rooms were of a very high standard and lovely and warm on a very cold night!Breakfast and Dinner were homemade and very tasty, and a good selection of drinks at the bar.Overall excellent stay here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family.Hopefully be back to see you next year!

We have stayed at the Stromabank for several years now. Our room is always clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast is great and the owners are very nice and very eager to help with anything you may need. We stay and the Stromabank every year and plan on staying again next year. We highly recommend it.

Everything about my stay was excellent,I was made to feel very welcome, the room was spotless with beautiful decor and stunning view. There was always lots of hot water, plentiful tea and coffee and a large electric kettle for filling my flask. The food was home cooked, large portions and very reasonably priced, accompanied by a fine selection of Orkney beers!

We had a wonderful 3-night stay in August 2023. The bedroom was compact but comfortable and had everything we needed. The food was plentiful, cooked to order and served in the conservatory restaurant which has the most fantastic views in all directions.We were lucky enough to be there for music night - a real treat to sit in the car listening to local musicians (fiddler, guitars, mandolin, accordion) playing reels, blues and country music.

What con we say? Thank you for all.Perfect place to discover Hoy: nice room, clean, nice view, good bed, everything for bathroom.Good staff, kindly and respect privacy. Very good restaurant, big plate with much vegetables as well and top breakfast.We have appreciated stay there

Just spent 3 nights here, Chris and Jade were most welcome, helpful, and friendly and so any other staff/family member we spoke too.Wide choice at breakfast and dinner with a very fully stocked bar.The dining room has a beautiful view over Scapa Flow.Our stay was comfortable, the bedroom/bathroom were cleaned, comfortable and with everything you would need.Thank you so much Jade & Chris for everything.I'd highly recommend, and we will definitely return for another visit.

We had a great stay in May. Delicious food, lots of it was locally sourced (vegetarian options especially) which was very good. Really friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were very comfortable with everything you needed. Thanks!

We stayed two nights here. Chris and Jade were friendly and helpful. Views from the dining room are just stunning, and freshly prepared breakfast very good. Our room was lovely and looked as though it had been newly decorated. Just a lovely, lovely stay.

We stayed for one night while we were exploring Hoy. The room was clean, modern and comfortable. The evening meal was excellent and the owners were friendly.There are lots of birds to watch while in the restaurant.

A small family run hotel which, being relatively isolated, offers evening meals as well as breakfast. Our room had been recently renovated, carpets and bed linen in good condition.Bed itself comfortable. Both breakfast and dinner copious and freshly cooked. Views from the dining room delightful. Bar also open and well stocked. Chris & Jade work hard to give their customers a comfortable stay.

What a lovely location, great people running the hotel, great home made food freshly cooked to order. 5 stars in all respects.

The hotel is in a very isolated location, right in the middle of nowhere. Absolutely calm. You only hear sheep and birds. If you want to hit the pubs in the evening, this isn't the place for you. But then you are also wrong on Hoy. The room is not very big but it is well furnished, the bed is comfortable, breakfast and dinner are very good, unfortunately the bar was empty when I visited. - You won't find anything better on Hoy.

We were made very welcome at the Stromabank and enjoyed a delicious meal in the evening.

In our three days we walked over to the Old Man of Hoy from Rackwick, visited the superb Scapa Flow museum at Lyness and went for local coastal walks on South Walls.

Wonderful location, with panoramic views from dining room. Excellent personal service. We had bed breakfast and two evening meals. Delicious food comfortable beds, what more can I say?

Great hotel. Jade and Chris were very friendly, helpful hosts. The dining room was beautiful, looking out over the fields,and the food was first rate. A cosy bar and well equipped rooms. Because of the position, a vehicle would be the best way to access the hotel, but the Community bus and Mr Clarke's taxi made it possible without your own transport.Highly recommended.

My wife and I were having a fortnight's holiday in Orkney, and fancied an overnight stay on Hoy.We were fortunate that Chris and Jade don't let their position as the only operating hotel on the island lead to complacency. Our welcome was warm and sincere and our room comfortable and spotless, with a stunning view across to Flotta.We enjoyed a tasty evening meal, cooked fresh to order and turned in for a very peaceful night's sleep; there's not a lot to disturb your sleep on Hoy and South Walls!Breakfast was excellent, with traditional choices available on a pick and mix basis.Hoy and South Walls do not have a huge footfall, and passing trade is basically nil, so running an hotel cannot be easy. Take the time and trouble to visit this fascinating island and give the Stromabank Hotel your business; you won't be disappointed.

A very pleasant weekend stay at The Stromabank. Our room was nicely furnished and very clean. The hosts were friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful view from the dining room overlooking the other South Isles and Pentland Firth.

If ever you go to the Island of Hoy, you should take your time and stay over night. We had a wonderful time there enjoying the excellent food and drinks in the unique atmosphere of this remote place!! The rooms were modern and cosy. A lovely end of a perfect day on an exciting island!

The rooms were lovely decorated andvery comfortable . They had everything you could possibly want from a hotel room. It's the best stocked tea tray I have seen. 🙂The Hotel is set in a great position over looking the Pentland Firth. The owners were very friendly and helpful . The music playing was also very good🙂 We would certainly go back.

After a day experiencing the wonders of Hoy, it was nice to spend the night at the very welcoming Stromabank Hotel in a clean and modern room.The (new) owners did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant and enjoyable one.Excellent breakfast with amazing views!Well worth supporting the owners who are starting out on this venture.

Comfortable clean and friendly stay

Very friendly owners , fabulous dining room views and good food and wine. Freshly decorated lovely bedroom and I recommend you always stay here if you are on Hoy !

We enjoyed our stay. Our room was very nice and clean. The diningroom has a beautiful view and breakfast was very good.The owner was very nice and helpful.

Newly diagnosed with coeliac disease, a gluten free diet was required for our week's stay. Although only recently set up in business, Chris and Jade took on board our requirements and with head chef Pete came up with some tasty meals. Could have done with a little more clothes hanging space in the room (a bit tight for a week's stay). We'll be back.

We had a wonderful weekend in Hoy and South Walls. We are avid wildlife watchers but weren't too sure what would be about in mid September, or what the weather would be like. We needn't have worried. Although the Saturday was dreich, Jade and Chris were very welcoming, letting us check in early after our drookit Porpoise spotting exploits. Our room was comfortable and clean, the ensuite bathroom was well stocked and the hot shower was much appreciated. Our evening meal was delicious, as was breakfast the following morning. WiFi wasn't a problem (maybe because we used the room tv for viewing - well done Emma Raducanu - and just used the internet for non-streaming purposes). The rest of the weekend was fab too (and sunny), with more Porpoises and a whole host of raptors: Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Hen Harrier, Merlin, Peregrine and Golden Eagle. Our huge thanks to Jade and Chris and The Stromabank for helping to make a memorable weekend.

After a hard day’s walking, the Stromabank was a welcome retreat - warm and comfortable rooms, hot showers, a delicious evening meal and drinks, with a stunning view over the Pentland Firth - we will stay here again.

Considering Chris and Jade have only been here three months we thought everything was really good, we know there are plans to modernise and alter things but this didn’t impact our stay at all, the room was clean and warm and I make special mention of the hospitality tray in the bedroom which I thought was very good, I also loved the tiles and towels in the en suite bathroom. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location with an excellent car park, it has a bar which though not of interest to us as teetotallers would surely have something for anyone who fancied a drink. Loved the fact meals were taken in the conservatory which has Panoramic views to feast your eyes on while you feed your stomach. The chef wasn’t on duty the night we were there but there was a bar menu and the food was good, great portion sizes and the young lady who served us was friendly, attentive without being intrusive and very efficient. Prices were reasonable. Breakfast was fantastic, loads of choice, freshly cooked, quality food. Light breakfasts, yoghurts, cereal and fruit juice also available. The hosts were friendly and customer service was faultless, I recommend the Stromabank and wish the owners every success going forward.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the room had everything we needed. Good food, but quite a limited menu especially for vegetarian/vegan options.

We stayed 2 days at the Stromabank where we were warmly welcomed by new owners Chris and Jade. The hotel is situated high up in the middle of the South Walls peninsular with with magnificent views South towards the Pentland Firth and East towards Scapa Flow.Our room was pleasant, comfortable, light and well-equipped with a good-sized bathroom. Breakfast and meals were taken in an attractive conservatory with 270 degree views. Very peaceful and relaxing. Excellent full breakfasts. We had 2 evening meals at the Stromabank which were copious and delicious and excellent value. Service was friendly and first-class. There is also a cosy, well-stocked bar.The hotel is situated within a mile or 2 of superbclifftop walks, a sheltered sandy beach for a bathe with an atmospheric cemetery, a fine lighthouse on a point the attractive harbour at Longhope and the amazing lifeboat museum just across the causeway on Hoy.We cycled here so a car is not essential.Chris and Jade have lots of plans, well underway, to refurbish the hotel and and add to the facilities in the next few months.
